CONCLUDING ADDRESS OF APPRECIATION
“On behalf of the Organising Committee, I wish to place on record our heartfelt appreciation to the International Road Federation for its collaboration, delegates, paper presenters, invited guest speakers, event partners, exhibitors, advertisers and the organising committee members and volunteers for their spirited support towards the successful culmination of this joint conference and congress.”
The Deputy Director General (Infra Sector) Public Works Department, Malaysia, Chairman of Organising Committee and Council Members of Road Engineering Association of Malaysia Dato’ Ir. Ahmad Redza bin Ghulam Rasool (pic) said this in his address of appreciation during the closing ceremony of the event.
“This 11th edition of the Malaysian Conference has created a record of sorts over the previous editions by recording an enviable 950 registered participants, 90 paper presenters, 5 luminary guest speakers, 91 exhibitors booking 108 booths of the 111 booths made available, 12 strategic event partners, 10 advertisers and some 100 committee members and volunteers who stood poised to meet the expectations and aspirations of the participants. All of you, ladies and gentlemen have made this edition an event to cherish and remember.
“Back to the just concluded conference and congress, the theme Towards Resilient Road Infrastructure, is timely given that we are now facing the impacts of climate change on our infrastructure, such as floods, heatwaves, droughts, hurricanes, wildfires and the melting of glacial ice leading to rising sea levels. Hence, this event has provided us the opportunity to gather all the great minds together to strategise our next move to build more resilient and sustainable road infrastructure.
“Throughout the three-day programme, we had heard some 70 speakers sharing their knowledge, experiences and evidence-based practices towards delivering a more resilient and sustainable road infrastructure. The topics discussed were wide-ranging and enlightening including, among others, smart roads and pavement technology, bridge engineering advanced technology, digitalisation in design and construction of road works, virtual and augmented reality application technology, infrastructure asset management, environmental and sustainability in bridge and roadworks, good governance and best practices in road asset management, traffic and road safety best practices, Building Information Technology (BIM) for infrastructure works, advanced public transportation, slope and geotechnical engineering and providing resilience to seismic and earthquakes.”
