DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID
The Director General of Public Works Department, Malaysia, the President of Road Engineering Association of Malaysia (REAM) and Adviser to the Organising Committee Dato’ Seri Ir. Haji Mohamad Zulkefly bin Sulaiman disbursed financial aid to deserving students during the closing ceremony of the conference and congress.
The objective is to provide one-off non-binding financial assistance to undergraduate students with constraints in family financial support but with good academic achievements pursuing tertiary education in civil engineering discipline, including road infrastructure and or transportation in local public universities.
A total of 75 selected students from 11 public universities were given RM 1,500.00 each. The cheques totaling RM 112,500.00 were presented to their respective lecturers at this ceremony.
This financial aid, initiated in 2003 by REAM under its ongoing corporate social responsibility programme, has to date disbursed more than RM 500,000.00.
The evaluation of the candidates submitted by the invited universities was carried out by the REAM Education Fund chaired by Ir. Dr. Fairul Zahri bin Mohamad Abas.
