OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY
The Senior Minister of Works, Malaysia Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof (pic) said that ‘we can no longer work in silo but instead must work collaboratively together to build a resilient and sustainable infrastructure.” He said this when addressing a capacity-filled World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur’s Merdeka Hall during the official opening ceremony of the joint events on 11 October 2022.
“The road to be built needs to be integrated with areas such as river basins, land use, and its surrounding development. Therefore, there is a need to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) criteria to reduce the risk of widespread damage to the infrastructure in the event of natural disasters.
“The Ministry of Works has prepared the Road & Highway Development Policy 2030 which will be launched soon. We are also preparing a new document which is the National Infrastructure Maintenance Policy 2030. The main objective of these two policies is to achieve sustainable development and provide and maintain a resilient road infrastructure.
“The Highway Network Development Plan 2030 (HNDP 2030), which sets out the master plan for the road network in peninsular Malaysia, was launched in September 2021. The Ministry of Works has also embarked on preparing the Highway Network Development Plan for Sarawak, Sabah & Labuan, which will be launched in 2025.”
The Senior Minister hoped that the findings from this conference and congress could be used in the formulation of policies and documents that are currently being prepared.
