MOW AND PWD WIN THE COVETED ROAD ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AWARD (REEA)

A total of 11 entries were received and 5 projects were short listed. The winner for this series of the 2022 Malaysian Road Conference was the Ministry of Works, Malaysia (MOW) for its newly completed bridge across the Perak River connecting Kampung Lambor Kiri and Kampung Lambor Kanan designed and implemented by the Public Works Department, Malaysia (PWD).

The Senior Minister of Works, Malaysia presented the trophy to the officers tasked with the project during the official opening of the conference and congress on 11 October.

The panel of judges was chaired by Ir. Mohd Shahrom bin Ahmad Saman.

The REEA, introduced in 2002, was to give recognition to the most outstanding project built within Malaysia during a specified period with the following objectives:

  • To recognise outstanding achievements in road engineering in terms of project function, design, construction and operation.

  • To promote the development of quality-built environment that contributes towards economic and social development of the country.

  • To promote public awareness of outstanding road engineering projects.

The award consists of one revolving trophy, three replicas and three certificates. The project owner, the principal designer and the principal contractor of the winning project shall each be awarded a replica and a certificate. The project owner shall be entitled to keep the revolving trophy for a period of six (6) months, after which it shall be returned to Road Engineering Association of Malaysia.
