REAM and Lafarge Malaysia sign an MOU

REAM and Lafarge Malaysia inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) towards initiating an equally beneficial collaboration in knowledge transfer and innovation in the area of road engineering in Malaysia and other related areas.

The signing ceremony was held on 15 October 2015 in conjunction the inaugural series under the Building Better Roads Seminars entitled ProSolutions: Building Better Connected Roads for the Future.

The President of REAM Datuk Ir. Haji Adanan bin Mohamed Hussain and REAM Honorary Secretary General Dato’ Ir. Dr. Ashaari bin Mohamad signed on behalf of REAM while Lafarge Malaysia’s signatories were Thierry Legrand, President & Chief Executive Officer and Vigneswaran Velautham, Vice President, Infrastructure Sales.

In his official opening address, Datuk Ir. Haji Adanan said that this MoU was the very first between REAM and a locally based corporate organisation, Lafarge Malaysia. He hoped that the alliance forged will set the pace for many more such collaborations with other organisations and institutions.

He added that Lafarge Malaysia has, well before the initiation of this MoU, taken positive steps to by becoming an Institutional Member of REAM, permitting its senior officials to serve in REAM’s technical committees and participating in various other activities of REAM.

Thierry Legrand in his welcoming speech hoped that this collaboration with REAM will help accelerate the development of the road construction industry in Malaysia. He said that the first of a series of seminars organised under the REAM-Lafarge Building Better Roads Seminars umbrella, with the objective of active knowledge transfer will culminate in discussions on how to build better roads in Malaysia.

He then announced Lafarge Malaysia’s contribution to the REAM Education Fund established to provide non-binding financial assistance to deserving students to help them pursue their tertiary education or research in the field of civil engineering and transportation in local public universities.
